Zumba Becoming Popular For Kids

PHILADELPHIA, PA.; May 24, 2012 (WPVI) -- Zumba classes usually draw big crowds to adult gyms.
But now a growing number of clubs and Y-M-C-A's are offering Zumba for kids.
The moves are adapted from the adult classes to be more kid-friendly.
Instructors say the dancing appeals to their natural love to move and have fun.
"We really try to make it as fun as possible so it can compete with video games and computers. We provide them the freedom to express themselves- they can go basically as crazy as they want in a structured environment," says instructor Ayanna Torres.
Alexander Muema was beaming after his class, "I feel energized. I feel like I want do more. Too bad the class is over."
Rachel Runsick actually takes class with her mother, who is an instructor.
She's gotten the message about exercise, "Because moving is healthy for you."
The instructors hope that if kids enjoy the exercise, they'll continue doing it for the rest of their lives.
And Kid-Zumba is offered at many places here locally.
Down the shore, there is even an adult and kid Zumba class, so you can dance together. It's offers at the Avalon recreation center Tuesday and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m.
